This course prepares students for employment as a Nurse’s Assistant/Home Health Aide, and/or for entry into the Practical Nursing Program as well as other health occupations. Students will receive clinical training in a local nursing home. This is a one-year program. Upon successful completion of the program, students meeting the standard established by the State Board of Nursing and New Horizons are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program examination to become a Certified Nurse Aide in Virginia. Nurse Assistant students study: medical terminology, personal care skills, nutrition, health care exploration, role of the nurse assistant, legal & ethical issues in health care, communication, and common health problems.
Nurse Assistant is a one-year program. However, the course meets the sequential elective requirement.
Credits: Three elective high school credits: one verified credit (must pass Certified Nurse Aide Assessment or NOCTI Assessment)
Certification: Certified Nurse Aide
Prerequisites: Good academic standing, attendance, and behavior. Students having successfully
completed the Introduction to Health Occupations course will be given priority for admission to Nurse Assistant.
Fees:
- $30 for insurance, pin, and club fee
- $80 for Nurse Aide Assessment
- $30 for NOCTI Assessment
- $30 for CPR course
Other Requirements: Students will be required to purchase/wear appropriate clothing. |
