In Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC), students are taught the skills necessary for employment in the areas of heating and related climate control systems. Throughout the program, students gain daily practical experience in all aspects of air conditioning and also have the opportunity to receive refrigeration certification. Students in HVAC study the following topics: Metering Devices, Compressors and Heat Pumps, Leak Detection/Evacuation/Recovery/Charging, Air Properties and Distribution, Cutting/Threading/Joining Components, Heating System Design, Soldering and Brazing, Refrigerant Transition and Recovery, and Sizing/Installing/Testing Water Systems.
HVAC is a two-year program
Credits:
- Articulated for seven college credit hours with Thomas Nelson Community College
- Three elective high school credits per academic year for course; one to two verified credits (must pass EPA certification test)
Certification: CFC EPA Certification
Prerequisites: Good attendance, and behavior
Fees:
- $16 for club dues, and workbook
- $40 per EPA Test (usually taken in the first year)
Other Requirements: Students will be required to purchase/wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment. |
