This two-year program prepares students to perform all the tasks of a dental assistant. These tasks include exposing, processing and mounting x-rays, preparing materials for various procedures including impressions, removing sutures, placing topical anesthetics and making diagnostic study models for alginate impressions. Second-year students generally perform an unpaid internship in a local practitioner’s office. This program also gives students a foundation to pursue a Dental Hygienist post secondary degree through a two or four year college. Dental
Assistant students study: maintenance of patient records, sterilization and disinfectant of instruments and equipment, preparation of patients for dental treatment and application of
tropical anesthetics, arrangement of dental instruments, materials and medications on chair side trays, use of oral evaluation system, mixtures and preparation procedures of materials
such as fillings and cements, laboratory procedures such as pouring/trimming/polishing cast, post op and oral hygiene instructions for patients, and taking/ developing/mounting X-rays
Dental Assistant is a two-year program
Credits: Three elective high school credits per academic year for course; one to two verified credits for (must pass NOCTI Assessment Exam)

- Radiation Health and Safety
- NOCTI Dental Assisting Assessment
Prerequisites: Good academic standing, attendance, and behavior. Students having successfully completed the Introduction to Health Occupations course will be given priority for admission to Dental Assistant.
Fees:
- $85 for Insurance, CPR, Radiation Certification, Lab Coat, and Club Fee
- $30 for NOCTI Assessment (second year)
Other Requirements: Students will be required to purchase/wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment.
