Credits:Three elective high school credits per academic year for both courses; one to two verified credits for Carpentry (must pass NOCTI Assessment exam)
Carpentry is a program that trains our future builders. Students develop the skills necessary for employment in the carpentry field. Throughout the program, students gain skills daily through practical experiences using hand and power tools. Students also participate in several building projects. Areas of study for Carpentry include: Construction Safety, Hand Tools and Power Tools, Roofing, Framing Houses, Drywall, Windows and Doors, Blueprint Reading, Estimated Materials, Metal Stud. In Construction Trades, students learn some of the very basics of carpentry. On many construction sites, trades helpers are responsible for carrying materials and tools to carpenters and for cleaning up. Much of the work is done outside. The job can be physically strenuous and involves climbing and prolonged standing, kneeling and bending.
Certification: NOCTI Carpentry Assessment
Prerequisites: Good attendance and behavior
Fees: In Carpentry I and Construction Trades, fees are $16 for club dues. For Carpentry II the fees increase to $46 to include the NOCTI Assessment.
Other Requirements:Students will be required to purchase/wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment. |
