Barbering is a half-day program only offered in the morning at the Woodside Lane Campus. Upon successful completion of the course, students are prepared to take the Commonwealth of Virginia Cosmetologist/Barber examination in order to become licensed practitioners. Students gain daily practical experiences working on other students and during their second year have the opportunity to provide services to patrons in a clinical setting. Barbering students can also earn SOL credit for use as elective credit upon successfully passing the State Licensing Exam. Barbering students study: professional ethics, safety and health, hair analysis, hair and scalp diseases/disorders, shampoos/rinses/conditioners/treatments, hair structure/scalp/hair treatments, hair cutting and shaping, anatomy and physiology, chemical restructuring, hair styling coloring and lightening, and nail/skin care procedures.

Credits: Three elective high school credits, one to two verified credits for Barbering (must pass Barbering License Exam or NOCTI Assessment Exam)
Certification:
- Virginia State Barbering License
Prerequisites: Good academic standing, attendance, and behavior.
Fees:
- $350 for Insurance, Kit, Text, Club Fees, Supplies (Barbering I)
- $114 for Insurance, Supplies, Club Fee (Barbering II)
- $115 for State and NOCTI Exams (Barbering II)
Other Requirements: Students will be required to wear appropriate clothing. |
